According to last data collected by IOM during the Multisectoral Needs Assessment a total of 1,2 M people need adequate shelter and household items. Domicide - that is the intentionally burning of properties to deprive people of their right to housing -affected almost 10,000 families in Cameroon so far.

March 2023

IOM is launching the Multi Sectoral Needs Assessment exercise at household level for the first time in Cameroon. Shelter/NFI sector has provided its standardized questionnaire in Kobo. The tool will finally allow to have a more coherent and harmonized reading of IDPs needs across different areas of crisis.

December 2022

According to the analysis of new severity indicators a total of 1.8 million individuals are in need of adequate shelter in Cameroon as of September 2022 (MSNA, IOM, August 2022)

13 organizations submitted their projects under the Humanitarian Response Plan 2023. Overall 17 projects were submitted planning to assist a total of 776,800 individuals for a total requirement of $33 M USD in 2023

June 2022

HIGHLIGHTS

In the North-West, South-West regions according to data analyzed and based on a weighting system that the Shelter Cluster partners designed in June 2022, in the 43 per cent of households were found to have severe inadequacies, 39 per cent of households were found to have moderate inadequacies, 9 per cent had extreme inadequacies, and 8 per cent had minor inadequacies. Internally displaced persons tend to have the most inadequate shelter.

December 2021

NEED ANALYSIS

o    According the last Multisectoral Needs Assessment (August/September 2021) majority of the displaced population lives in inadequate shelters

o    43,498 Cameroonian refugees are pre-registered in 40 sites in Chad (planning figure: 60,000 refugees and host communities), while RRM estimates 36,271 people are internally displaced in Far North Cameroon (planning figure: 40,000 IDPs and host communities). SNFI sector through OCHA advocacy note is asking 1,9 M USD$ to assist 35,000 IDPs with NFI kits, emergency shelters, houses rehabilitation.

Three (03) staff members of Plan International, a UNHCR partner, were kidnapped by non-State armed groups (NSAG) fighters while they were distributing core relief items in Bamenda town during which a UNHCR vehicle on loan to the partner was taken away by the separatists, the general security situation in the North-West and South-West regions during the reporting month continued to indicate that the humanitarian space is further shrinking.

September 2020

There have been a series of military operations in Belo since the beginning of August and have caused mass displacements. The operation  of the 26th and 29th August was particular and  that led to the displacement of over 6,000 persons. Women and children constitute the greater part of the displaced population. Many houses and businesses were destroyed. The violence also caused the displacement of 170 IDP mainly Bororo Fulani who ran away from violence specifically targeting them. Majority of them are children and self-settled in Bamum living condition is worsening.
